I’m a 2019 graduate from Edge Hill where I was the recipient of the prestigious ‘Academic Achievement Award’ during my second year and graduated with a first-class degree in Web Design & Development.
I have three beautiful children (Rosemary, Beauden, and Sonny) where I’m truly a slave to their needs! Having three young children is definitely a challenge and they keep me on my toes! But, I wouldn’t have it any other way and I couldn’t be more proud of each of them.
Born in Preston, Lancashire has been home for me for the most part, except for two incredible years spent down south in Somerset and Bath. I was fortunate to spend a year living in Wells (Somerset), an incredibly special place to me and somewhere I will always have a deep affection for.
I am a keen traveller but it isn’t as easy as it once was to undertake new adventures. Over the years I have been fortunate enough to see some beautiful places. Miami has to be the standout place but travelling alone and spending time in the Midwest of the USA was a once in a lifetime adventure!
I am a big sports fan, mainly football and F1. Being a proud Prestonian, it’s only fitting that my team is Preston North End.
Musically, my taste varies and I could never assign myself to one category. I would say that my taste doesn’t align with modern-day music, and I find much more enjoyment from older songs.
When I’m not watching the latest Disney or Pixar film, I love a good comedy. I’m also a big box set fan. Like music, my taste is so varied. I couldn’t outline one particular movie or series as my favourite, there are far too many to name!
More recently, I’ve started to understand and appreciate the beauty, calmness, and peacefulness of bird watching. I’ve also grown fond of Lego. There is something quite relaxing and special about sitting in a quiet environment with my daughter building something together.
In 2016 I decided to embark on a new adventure. I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and after three challenging years, I graduated from Edge Hill University with First-Class Honours in Web Design & Development.
The road to Mixd was another challenge that tested my mentality and will to succeed. I suffered the lows of rejection, and job offers retractions but remained positive throughout and never gave up! I waited patiently and always believed that the right opportunity would present itself, and here I am.
When looking for my first role within the industry, my primary concern was to find a company that shared my values: the importance of a work-life balance, an understanding that the unexpected can happen and when it does, the reassurance that they will be there for you. The trust placed within yourself to manage your own time, and the importance, understanding, and assurances of flexibility.
I was attracted to Mixd for both personal and professional reasons. Personally, the family feel that Mixd exuded, not by trying too hard, but by just being themselves. Their approach, friendliness, welcoming nature, and manner of tone have been so refreshing.
Professionally, their existing work and skill-set, along with their encouragement, commitment, and dedication to training, whilst allowing the freedom to divert (should you wish) and create your career path.
Mixd is everything that I had been looking for and I am delighted to be part of the Mixd team as a Graduate Web Developer.
